Wales most successful Rugby World Cup was in 1987 where they managed to qualify for the semi-finals before losing to the All Blacks, but achieved a win over Australia in the 3rd place playoff. The 1991 and 1995 Rugby World Cup saw Wales unable to reach the quarterfinals in both tournaments, and Wales was eliminated by Australia in the quarterfinals of the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
The 2003 Rugby World Cup saw a revitalised Wales coming close to winning against the All Blacks in a pool game before being defeated by England in the quarterfinals, with England going on to win the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Wales were unable to reach the quarterfinals at the 2007 Rugby World Cup after a disappointing performance against Fiji in their final pool game.
Namibia, who currently play in Group 1A of the African Rugby Zone have managed to stay in 20th poistion in the IRB world rugby rankings, despite a fairly lack lustre showing in last weeks Nation's cup in Romania, thanks mainly to their victory over Portugal, the team they have displaced in 20th spot.
NAMIBIA has moved up a spot-on the International Rugby Board (IRB) World Rankings, despite having failed to defend their IRB Nations Cup on the weekend, taking back the spot they had relinquished to Portugal earlier this year. On the June 20th IRB Rankings list posted on www.irb.com, Namibia regained the 20th spot with 61.43 rating points replacing Portugal who now occupy the 21st spot on the list with 60.67 rating points.
The Namibian Rugby Union’s acting Chief Executive Officer, Christo Alexander, confirmed to Informanté on Monday that although Namibia lost to Georgia in this year’s edition of the IRB Nations cup, their position on the world rankings would not be any worse than before the start of the competition.
